About The Role

At David Wood Baking, we have over 20 years of experience in the bakery business. We are passionate about baking and produce a range of quality frozen "bake off" and craft bakery products including Savoury Pastry, Sweet Pastry, Bread, Morning Goods, and Confectionery from six bakeries across the UK.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Manage labour levels, ensuring correct staffing and efficient use of plant and equipment. Respond promptly to over-usage and communicate with supervisors to reduce wastage. Identify areas for cost savings and implement improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality System standards. Manage team to adhere to work instructions and controls to meet product specifications. Conduct quality reviews and audits, and communicate actions effectively.
  • Control raw materials and packaging usage, ensure machinery functions properly, and store products correctly to minimize waste.
  • Maintain Food Safety, Quality, Legality, Hygiene, and Health & Safety standards. Conduct and monitor Food Safety and Hygiene audits. Ensure staff are trained and aware of safety protocols.
  • Prioritize staff training and development, promote multi-skilling, and conduct appraisals. Foster high staff morale and clear communication about company goals.
  • Enforce company rules fairly, handle incidents, and recognize performance. Ensure equal opportunity based on merit and commitment.
  • Oversee all operations including Hygiene, Engineering, Dispatch, Receipt of Goods, and non-production staff in absence of other managers.
  • Ensure site security in collaboration with security personnel.
  • Support Sales with product development and samples. Participate in external customer visits and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate holiday schedules with team leaders and ensure continuous production.
  • Collaborate with senior management and contribute ideas for company improvement.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and induction processes.
  • Oversee proper use and maintenance of bakery equipment, liaising with engineers as needed.

Ensure technical information for equipment is accessible to staff.

  • Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by senior management.
