Job summary

A well-established manufacturer in Great Barr seeks a Mechanic to perform inspections and maintenance on heavy goods vehicles. Ideal candidates will be fully qualified and preferably hold an HGV Class 1 or Class 2 license. The role includes 12-hour shifts with possible Saturday overtime. Job description
Overview

An established manufacturer that has been providing first class products for over 80 years. On a daily basis they continually strive to deliver exceptional products and services to all their customers.

Shifts and schedule

The role involves 12 hour shifts, 4 on 4 off, which can be a combination of days, lates and nights. There may also be an on-call rota and some Saturday overtime.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out inspections to a varied and diverse fleet, including heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), refrigerated vehicles, tail lifts, light commercials (vans), trailers and various delivery products.
  • Perform routine (and preventative) maintenance and scheduled servicing to DVSA standards.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOTs and assist with MOT preparation.
  • Carry out gearbox and clutch repairs and maintenance.
  • Conduct 6 (or 8) weekly inspections and correct running defects where required.
  • Work with hydraulics and pneumatics, and inspect/correct electrical and wiring systems.
  • Seek to improve vehicle standards through proactive diagnostics and repairs.
Qualifications and skills
  • Ideally fully qualified (City & Guilds), NVQ or equivalent.
  • Additional accreditations such as IRTEC or EV qualification would be desirable.
  • A HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence would be advantageous.
