Job Description:

Location: Rutland LE15

Shift Pattern: Tuesday AM - Saturday 1PM (45 hours/week, includes 30-minute daily break)

Overview:

We're seeking a highly skilled and detail-focused HGV Technician / Fleet Mechanic to take ownership of the visual presentation and condition of our managed contract fleet—ranging from 3.5T vehicles to articulated expanding trailers. This hands-on role is crucial in ensuring our client-facing assets are always ready to perform, maintaining both their aesthetic appearance and functionality. Working in collaboration with our Managed Contract Team, Production, and Fleet Engineering, you'll play a vital role in making sure our fleet looks as good as it performs.

Key Duties:

  • Perform general maintenance, defect checks, and cosmetic repairs to vehicles and trailers, excluding legislative servicing.
  • Carry out visual presentation upkeep, internal/external cosmetic fixes, and operational readiness tasks.
  • Support emergency repairs and on-site call-outs when required.
  • Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Collaborate with the Managed Contracts Manager and Fleet Engineer to plan maintenance and prepare units for upcoming events.
  • Keep detailed records of work, ensuring cost capture and quoting processes are followed accurately.
  • Manage parts, consumables, and tool inventory including stock taking and ordering.
  • Oversee the upkeep and general maintenance of stock.

Key Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience in vehicle/trailer maintenance or general fleet upkeep—HGV/trailer background highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems (training can be provided).
  • Basic fabrication and welding skills preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams and manuals.
  • Strong eye for detail and commitment to high standards of presentation.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, reactive environment with flexible hours.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driving license required (Class 2 preferred but not essential).
