Job description

HGV Technician

Location: Glasgow

Basic Salary: Up to GBP45,000

Our client is looking for a talented and efficient HGV Technician with a valid NVQ or equivalent qualification to join their leading team. You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to ensure they meet manufacturers' specifications and road safety standards. This role is based in a state-of-the-art workshop, utilising modern equipment and techniques.

Responsibilities for HGV Technician:

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and pre-MOT checks to ensure vehicles meet legal requirements.
  • Repair and replace worn or defective parts, including brakes, clutches, engines, and transmissions.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced workshop environment.
  • Use specialist tools and diagnostic equipment to pinpoint and repair issues accurately.
  • Keep accurate records of work completed and report any additional defects found.
  • Ensure all work meets health and safety standards and industry regulations.

Skills and Qualifications for HGV Technician:

  • You will have served a recognised apprenticeship as an HGV Technician and hold a technical qualification (such as NVQ / VCQ / SVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair).
  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician in a busy workshop environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HGV systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid HGV Class 1 or 2 licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work to high standards.
