Alecto Recruitment is working with our client to find a qualified HGV Technician in the Lancashire area, to work Monday-Friday in the workshop on their fleet of vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Maintenance and Repair: Carry out regular servicing and maintenance on a fleet of HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles), ensuring vehicles are in excellent working condition and fully compliant with safety standards.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using diagnostic tools and provide effective solutions to minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct thorough pre-mot and in-service inspections of HGVs, identifying wear and tear and any potential issues that could affect the vehicle's performance or safety.
  • Component Replacement: Replace or repair worn or faulty parts, including brakes, suspension, engines, transmissions, exhaust systems, and electrical components.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections for each vehicle, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Customer Service: Communicate with fleet managers or customers when necessary to report on vehicle status or to provide recommendations for repairs or improvements.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean and organized workshop, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and in good working order.
  • Emergency Support: Provide roadside assistance for HGVs in the event of a breakdown or emergency, as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Essential:
    • NVQ Level 3 in HGV Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification.
    • Proven experience as an HGV Technician or Diesel Mechanic, working on a range of HGVs (rigid and articulated).
    • Strong diagnostic skills and experience with modern vehicle diagnostic tools.
    • Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in HGVs.
    • Full, valid UK driving license (Class C+E preferred, but not essential).
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance.
    • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working with various HGV brands (e.g., Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz).
    • HGV Class 1 or 2 license.
    • Knowledge of fleet management software and vehicle diagnostic systems.
    • Previous experience with MOT preparation and compliance.
    • Training or certification in health and safety practices or other relevant areas.
