HGV Technician

Chorley

£19.50 p/h + bonus + overtime

Alecto Recruitment is working with our client who is looking for an experienced Commercial Vehicle Mechanic in the Chorley area. From diagnostic testing using state-of-the-art tools and manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment to addressing all aspects of vehicle repair including brakes, clutches, gearboxes, engines, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be responsible for servicing and repairing commercial vehicles in line with legislative requirements and manufacturer recommendations.
  2. Servicing and repair of trailers to ensure their safe and effective operation.
  3. MOT inspections, preparation, and presentation to ensure compliance with road safety standards.
  4. Testing and diagnosing faults using the latest diagnostic equipment, interpreting repair instructions, and providing solutions based on technical information.
  5. Conducting electrical fault finding and repairs on commercial vehicles.
  6. Roller brake testing, diagnosing issues, and carrying out repairs as needed.
  7. Accurately complete job cards detailing all work carried out, parts issued, and necessary write-ups for invoicing.
  8. Adhere to all health and safety procedures and maintain a clean and safe work environment, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
  9. Maintain work area, tools, and equipment to a high standard of cleanliness and safety.
  10. Maintain professionalism in health and safety standards, dress, attitude, customer care, and honesty to consistently provide a professional image to customers.
  11. Collaborate with the Workshop Supervisor on any work that requires additional tooling or skills.
Requirements:
  1. Qualified to NVQ level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent in a relevant vehicle repair discipline.
  2. Full clean driving licence (essential).
  3. LGV (CE) licence is preferred but not essential.
  4. Own tools are required for the role.
  5. Strong diagnostic skills and proficient in using diagnostic laptop computers.
  6. Experience in repairing commercial vehicles and trailers.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  8. A positive, self-driven personality, organised with a focus on high-quality work and customer satisfaction.
  9. A team player with a professional outlook on work and relationships.
