Job summary

Ford & Slater is seeking a skilled HGV Technician to service and maintain a wide range of trucks and vehicles at their Birtley dealership. You will perform safety inspections, diagnose faults, and prepare vehicles for MOTs, with road tests as needed and a focus on complying with manufacturer procedures.

Ideal candidates will have an apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Commercial Vehicle Maintenance, a full UK driving licence, and a readiness to work nights.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 in Commercial Vehicle Maintenance and repair.
• Experience as Technician/Mechanic in HGV or related sectors.
• Ability to diagnose faults and carry out safety inspections for MOTs.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to work night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Carry out safety inspections and prepare vehicles for MOTs.
• Fault diagnostics and repairs according to manufacturer procedures.
• Road test vehicles when required.
• Complete job cards and service records accurately.
• Attend breakdowns as required.
• Follow company processes for paperwork and record-keeping.

Job description

Servicing and maintaining a wide variety of Trucks and Vehicles. Carry out safety inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT's. Fault Diagnostics. Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer's procedures and in a safe and responsible manner. Road test vehicle when required, subject to licence restrictions.

• Previous experience working as a Technician / Mechanic within the HGV, Commercial Vehicle, LGV, PSV, Heavy Plant, Car or an associated sector.
• If you are a Light Commercial or Car Mechanic who would like to transfer your skills then we can offer you training to become an HGV Technician.
• Ideally have served a recognised apprenticeship or training programme. Qualified to Level 3 (C&G, NVQ or equivalent) in Commercial Vehicle Maintenance and repair.
• Excellent technical knowledge ensuring maintenance and repairs are carried out to manufacturer's procedures.
• Sound knowledge to accurately diagnosis faults.
• Ability to carry out safety inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT's.
• Participate in breakdowns as required.
• The skills to follow company processes for completing all paperwork including accurate completion of job cards and service records.
• General level of computer literacy is advantageous.
• Own tool kit.
• Full UK driving licence.
