To find out more about the job and DVSA, please join us either at one of our virtual events or at one of our face-to-face open days. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and can register for an event.
To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in the repair, maintenance, or inspection of at least one type of road vehicle (e.g., car, HGV, PSV). You must hold a full and current car driving licence and possess good customer service skills. You should already hold, or be willing to work towards, relevant qualifications in motor vehicle repair (e.g., iRTEC or IMI).
Vehicle Standards Assessors work an average of 37 hours per week, conducting tests out of 3rd party Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs). Please consider the location you apply for; we recommend being within 30-45 minutes travel time of your chosen location. You must be willing to travel a wide geographical area on specific DVSA business, with the occasional overnight stay. You will be provided with a fully insured and taxed lease car for both work and personal use, with other running costs covered.
We encourage part-time applicants, but please note there is a business requirement for successful applicants to be available to work 28 hours per week. This role doesn’t require physical repair work, but involves climbing into larger vehicles and inspecting the underside.
Extensive training on all aspects of the role will be provided, lasting around 16 weeks, mostly at ATFs and online using Microsoft Teams, with a few weeks of expenses-paid training at DVSA locations, usually in Bristol or Manchester. The training is completed on a full-time basis, which is non-negotiable.
