Job summary

A local government council in Chelmsford is seeking a qualified HGV Mechanic / Vehicle Technician to join their Operations Services team. The role involves preparing vehicles for tests, performing routine servicing, and conducting breakdown repairs. Applicants must have an HGV Class 2 licence and relevant qualifications. Flexibility is essential, and training may be provided. This position offers a full-time schedule of 37 hours per week.

Qualifications

Job description

Chelmsford City Council are looking to recruit a qualified HGV Mechanic / Vehicle Technician to work as part of our Operations Services team who maintain the Council's fleet. If you possess a strong mechanical background and want to join a professional and dedicated team, then this could be the job for you!

The role is based at our vehicle workshop at Freighter House. Responsibilities include preparing vehicles for annual testing, performing routine servicing and safety inspections, and carrying out breakdown repairs in accordance with DVSA and Operator Licence requirements. The role also involves MOT testing, roadside assistance, completing detailed service records, and contributing to the safe and clean operation of the workshop environment.

The successful applicant will possess an HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence along with City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Technology Parts 1, 2, and 3 (or equivalent). Applicants should be experienced in assessing and prioritising work to comply with deadlines as well as be confident working individually and as part of the team. Previous experience of working on HGVs is desirable but not essential as training will be provided as appropriate.


The post holder will be required to work 37 hours a week Monday to Friday. Flexibility is crucial within this role.
