MB397 – HGV Mechanic/Recovery Mechanic

Location: London and Home Counties

Salary: £35,774 – £36,563

Working Hours: Flexi Hours Monday to Friday between 7.30am – 6pm – 37 hours per week

Description

First Military Recruitment is currently recruiting for a HGV Mechanic/Recovery Mechanic to work on a variety of vehicles. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and expanding business with prospects for career advancement. Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Attend breakdowns, assess faults, and undertake repairs or arrange vehicle recovery from roadside.
  2. Coordinate with managers and fleet admin to discuss and modify work orders as needed.
  3. Communicate with customers regarding vehicle repairs, delays, or variations.
  4. Drive customer vehicles, including LGV, HGV, and PCV vehicles, as necessary.
  5. Maintain stocks of workshop materials and equipment, ensuring health and safety compliance and reordering as needed.
  6. Order and fit parts or materials for repairs.
  7. Collaborate with other tradespersons and undertake minor related repairs.
  8. Perform VOSA testing using computerized systems as required.
  9. Adhere to health and safety legislation, report safety issues, and implement immediate safety measures.
  10. Keep accurate records of all work in line with transport regulations.
  11. Record task times and submit records for approval and payment.
  12. Stay updated on developments in vehicle technology and participate in relevant training.
  13. Maintain necessary legal and professional accreditations.
  14. Handle MOT testing and vehicle presentation at VOSA test centers.
  15. Carry out repairs on agricultural, horticultural, or arborist equipment as needed.
  16. Respond to emergency calls and assist customers in emergencies.
  17. Supervise temporary staff, including apprentices and work experience students, as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experienced HGV Engineer with experience across a mixed vehicle fleet; City and Guilds qualification or equivalent.
  • Full clean UK/EU driving license, with at least one year of driving experience, and a Category C HGV license.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of contractual work constraints, costs, and client requests.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices, including PPE usage.
