First Military Recruitment are currently seeking an HGV Mechanic on behalf of one of our clients.

This role is vital in ensuring a large fleet of road sweepers and tankers are maintained in-line with company and legislative requirements. All repairs, inspections, servicing and MOT preparation are performed in-house, and the successful candidate will have experience working to a high level of detail and be able to prioritise workload accordingly.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reporting directly to the Workshop Manager.
• Carrying out thorough inspections, servicing and MOT preparation.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
• Carry out necessary repairs and replacement of parts.
• On-call requirements to service roadside breakdowns, as required.
• Be flexible and possess an enthusiastic approach to working in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
• Efficient time management, working to tight deadlines.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations at all times.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum of a level 2 (NVQ, City & Guilds) in a vehicle-related qualification.
• Previous experience working in the HGV or PSV industry (highly desirable).
• Electrical experience including diagnostics (highly desirable).
• Possess your own comprehensive tool kit (main workshop tooling available).
• Be flexible and possess an enthusiastic approach to working in sometimes challenging conditions.
• HGV Class 2 (Class C+E) driving licence (highly desirable).
• 50 hours per week @ £20.00 per hour.
• Monday to Friday (day shift).
• Alternative Saturday shift pattern required, paid at an enhanced rate.
• Availability for on-call rota via company van (supplied), paid at enhanced rate.
• Further overtime available – paid at £25.00 per hour
