Job description

HGV Highways Operative – Torquay, Torquay

Our clients are looking for a Highways Operative to join their hardworking, dedicated team in Torquay.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a team undertaking Highways repairs, including Patching, Resurfacing, Potholes, Drainage, Footways, and General Highway Maintenance.
  • Use technology (tablets/apps) to input safety data and maintenance records.
  • Drive/operate plant and equipment where trained, necessary for daily tasks.
  • Take responsibility for vehicles/plant/materials in your charge.
  • Provide direction/supervision of less experienced operatives where appropriate.
  • Maintain a commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Undertake a high level of manual work and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Hold a CSCS Card.
  • Possess an HGV licence.
  • Have a valid New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) certification.
  • Be prepared to work during Winter Works as required.
Rate of Pay:
  • This is a PAYE position, offering benefits such as accrued holiday pay from day one, weekly pay, and no umbrella fees.
  • Deductions will only be for Tax and National Insurance, clearly shown on your payslip.

This is a temporary role, with the possibility of becoming permanent in the future.
