Job description

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Location: Headcorn (Just outside of Maidstone), Kent

Working Hours: Monday to Friday (8:18 or 7:17), plus every other Saturday morning (7:12)

Salary: A GBP 20 p/h for 8 hours, A GBP 24 p/h after 8 hours Monday to Friday, A GBP 28 p/h on Saturdays

Our client, a long-established haulage company based in Headcorn, Kent, is looking for an experienced HGV Mechanic to join their team. The fleet consists of Volvo and MAN tractor units with mixed ADR Tankers. This role offers the opportunity to expand your HGV skills beyond basic truck and trailer mechanics, including working with specialist auxiliary equipment, hydraulic pumps, compressors, and fabrication tools such as TIG and MIG welders.

The Role: HGV Mechanic

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual to join a growing team. The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance and repair of the fleet, ensuring all vehicles operate in optimal condition and comply with road safety regulations.

Key Duties
  • Responsible for maintenance, repair, and inspection of the company's fleet of trucks weekly.
  • Handling MOT preparation, defects, punctures, tyre changes, welding, drilling, cutting, and fabrication.
  • Using the fleet support vehicle to attend breakdowns if required.
  • Managing bookings for external work.
  • Operating the roller brake tester and adhering to brake test schedules.

The successful candidate will ensure vehicle maintenance is carried out to the highest standards.

You Will Also Need To Have
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar mechanical role.
  • At least 1 year of experience supervising or managing.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own time.
  • Technical understanding.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Diagnostic experience (TEXA preferable).
  • Availability on Saturday mornings.
  • Your own hand tools.
  • Welding and fabricating experience (advantageous).
