Job summary

Owens Group in Newport is seeking a skilled HGV fitter to diagnose and repair heavy vehicles and trailers, ensuring maximum mechanical reliability and minimal downtime.

The role offers 4/4 off shifts (days) with pay of £18.00–£20.00 per hour, and includes benefits such as free parking, a health & wellbeing programme and life insurance. Work is in person.

Qualifications

• Apprentice trained and qualified to City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in heavy vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair or equivalent advantageous but not essential.
• A clean driving licence is essential with a HGV category C+E entitlement advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair HGV vehicles and trailers to restore performance and minimise delays.
• Perform mobile service work and respond to emergency call-outs.
• Provide technical knowledge/advice to team members for best decisions.
• Carry out 8-weekly inspections of vehicles.
• Carry out preventative planned maintenance.
• Carry out other duties as directed by the Company.

Job Purpose: To supply a skilled technical service to ensure maximum equipment Effectiveness to meet customer requirements

Shifts: 4/4off Days or Monday - Friday

Rate of Pay: £18.00- £20.00 per hour

Specific Key Accountabilities

• Diagnose and repair HGV vehicles and trailers dealing with mechanical breakdowns so as to restore vehicles to required performance in order to minimise/or avoid unnecessary delays.
• Mobile service work and emergency call-outs
• Provide technical knowledge/advice/skill to other team members ensuring the best decisions are made.
• Carry out 8-weekly inspections of vehicles
• Carry out preventative planned maintenance.
• Carry out all other duties as directed by the Company.

Specific Qualifications/ Job Training

Specific Experience

• Knowledge of current legislation
