Alecto Recruitment is working with our client in the waste and recycling sector to find an experienced HGV Fitter to work in their workshop.

About the Role:

As an HGV Fitter, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of their fleet by maintaining high standards of workmanship in the servicing and repair of their vehicles, trailers, and related equipment. You will be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and conducting preventative maintenance checks to ensure fleet vehicles are operating at peak performance. This is a full-time, permanent role with opportunities for growth and development within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Vehicle Inspections & Diagnostics: Carry out regular inspections of fleet vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment to identify faults, defects, and wear. Use diagnostic tools to test systems and components.
  2. Repairs & Maintenance: Dismantle, overhaul, repair, and reassemble faulty components as required. Conduct emergency call-out repairs when necessary.
  3. Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance checks to ensure vehicles remain compliant and operational.
  4. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of repairs, services, and inspections for each vehicle and trailer in line with company policies.
  5. Road Testing: Test vehicles on the road to assess performance and ensure all issues are resolved.
  6. Safety Compliance: Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safe working practices and health and safety regulations. Always use the appropriate PPE and safety equipment.
  7. Team Collaboration: Work effectively with the team and support colleagues in their tasks, ensuring high levels of communication and teamwork.

To be successful in this role, you will need experience in an HGV maintenance environment, with a strong understanding of vehicle systems and repair processes. We are looking for someone who is methodical, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  1. Previous experience working with HGVs, either in a workshop or fleet environment.
  2. Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
  3. HGV Class 1 Driving Licence/CPC.
  4. NVQ Level 2 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification.
  5. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and hand tools.
  6. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively.

Desirable:

  1. Experience working with DAF trucks.
  2. Previous experience in the waste management industry.
