Job description

Choose a career with the UK’s biggest independent drainage specialist

The Lanes Group needs a HGV Jet Vac Engineer to join our Operational Team in Cardiff. The depot is a well established team that are looking to expand further with another strong member of staff.

The job:

You will be part of a two-person team, operating our high specification jetting equipment and vacuumation units. Work Projects will include any drainage related issues, including blockage clearance, pipe cleansing programmes, and emergency reactive works.

Although you start at the depot, you will be mobile attending to all work activities, within various work sectors, including industrial, rail, utility, commercial, and residential. Travelling in your vehicle, you will be covering jobs throughout the region which can involve travel times added in addition.

About you:

You may already be familiar with high pressure jetting equipment and/or drainage networks, but no problem if not, as full training will be given for the right candidates.

You will be required to hold an HGV Class 2 licence, with no more than 3 penalty points ideally. A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.

You can become a successful Utilities Waste-Water Technician if you have problem-solving, listening, critical thinking, teamworking abilities, and a customer-focused approach. Also, as you need to operate machinery, excellent hand-eye coordination and concentration are essential skills. The following skills are also useful:

  1. Competent in using an electronic device – laptop/tablet for data entry.
  2. Physical fitness and lots of energy.
  3. Ideally a driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  4. An in date CSCS would be advantageous – however this could be obtained if necessary.

To work in the Utilities industry, you may have to compete with inclement weather outdoors. Protective clothing such as a hi-vis jacket, boots, and a helmet are mandatory requirements, and you may be asked to travel to different sites. The workday starts early, especially during the summer, when there is light in the morning, but drains can be blocked at any hour of the day and emergency assistance can often be needed.

You will be expected to comply with all Group Health Safety and Environmental compliance. Full training will be provided as part of a Group Induction Training package which will include high pressure jetting course, confined space, manual handling, first aid, and other relevant courses to obtain certification.

Benefits:

Hours of work: 40 hours a week (usually 8 - 4:30) + overtime and overtime rates applicable. Flexibility required.

  1. Enhanced overtime rates.
  2. 21 days holiday + bank holidays.
  3. Life Assurance scheme.
  4. Auto enrolment pension scheme.
  5. Friendly working environment as part of a growing successful Group.
