Job summary

Freightliner Ltd in Southampton seeks an LGV Class 1 Driver to join our award-winning team. You will transport containers to and from depots, perform daily vehicle checks and ensure your paperwork aligns with container and seal numbers, while following road transport legislation and company procedures.

A current Class 1 licence and CPC (DQC) card are essential, along with good English, flexibility with hours, and ADR is a bonus.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current and valid Class 1 driving licence.
• Must hold CPC qualification (DQC card).
• Experience transporting containers.
• Flexible with working hours.
• Good written and spoken English.
• ADR Licence – beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Transport containers to and from the depot while complying with road transport legislation.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks to ensure roadworthiness and safety.
• A n d a r r i v e a t t h e j o b o n t i m e .
• Inform shunt operators of problems promptly if running late.
• Check paperwork against container and seal numbers.
• Follow company procedures, customer procedures and the highway code.
• Communicate effectively with customers, shunt operators, container control staff and other depots.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health and safety.

Job Title LGV Class 1 Driver

Location Southampton

Main Purpose of Job Ensure you arrive at your job on time, using the most efficient route with the correct information against your paperwork.

Relationships a) Responsible to: Driver Trainer, Transport Manager.

b) Responsible for: Ensuring you arrive at your job on time, keeping your vehicle roadworthy with your daily checks and performing your driver responsibilities in line with legislation and company procedure.

c) Liaison with: Other Drivers, Shunt Operators, Managers, Container Control Staff, Yard Staff, Forklift Drivers, Customers, other Pentalver Depots and members of the public.

Main Tasks of Job

• Transport containers to and from the depot whilst complying with road transport legislation.
• Ensure you do your daily vehicle checks to make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and safe to use.
• Ensure you arrive at your job on time.
• Ensure you inform the shunt operators of any problems in good time i.e. if you’re running late.
• Ensure all paperwork is correct and physically checked against your container and seal number.
• Follow all company procedures, customer procedures and the highway code.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the customers, shunt operators, container control staff and other depots, understand requirements and communicate accurate information on time as required.
• Maintain high standards of good housekeeping.
• Maintain health and safety standards.
