Job summary

Freightliner in Southampton is seeking an LGV Class 1 Driver to join our team. You will transport containers to and from depots, conduct daily vehicle checks and ensure your paperwork matches container seals and routes, while adhering to road transport legislation and company procedures.

You should hold a current Class 1 licence, CPC qualification and have experience with container transport. Flexibility with hours and good English communication are essential. ADR licence is a bonus.

Qualifications

• Holders of a current and valid Class 1 driving licence.
• Holder of full CPC qualification (DQC card).
• Previous experience of transporting containers.
• Flexibility with working hours.
• Good comprehension of written and spoken English.
• ADR Licence – beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Transport containers to and from the depot whilst complying with road transport legislation.
• Ensure you do your daily vehicle checks to make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and safe to use.
• Ensure you arrive at your job on time.
• Inform the shunt operators of any problems in good time.
• Ensure all paperwork is correct and checked against container and seal numbers.
• Follow all company procedures, customer procedures and the highway code.
• Communicate effectively with customers, shunt operators, container control staff and other depots.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health and safety.

Job Title LGV Class 1 Driver

Main Purpose of Job Ensure you arrive at your job on time, using the most efficient route with the correct information against your paperwork.

Relationships a) Responsible to: Driver Trainer, Transport Manager.

b) Responsible for: Ensuring you arrive at your job on time, keeping your vehicle roadworthy with your daily checks and performing your driver responsibilities in line with legislation and company procedure.

c) Liaison with: Other Drivers, Shunt Operators, Managers, Container Control Staff, Yard Staff, Forklift Drivers, Customers, other Pentalver Depots and members of the public.

Main Tasks of Job

• Transport containers to and from the depot whilst complying with road transport legislation.
• Ensure you do your daily vehicle checks to make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and safe to use.
• Ensure you arrive at your job on time.
• Ensure you inform the shunt operators of any problems in good time i.e. if you’re running late.
• Ensure all paperwork is correct and physically checked against your container and seal number.
• Follow all company procedures, customer procedures and the highway code.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the customers, shunt operators, container control staff and other depots, understand requirements and communicate accurate information on time as required.
• Maintain high standards of good housekeeping.
• Maintain health and safety standards.
