Job summary

Culina Group is seeking an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver / Shunter for our Skelmersdale depot. The role combines Class 1 driving with yard shunting to support efficient site operations and safety compliance.

Shifts are 4 on 4 off, nights from 6pm to 6am (40.25 hours/week). Pay is £15.35 per hour plus shift supplement and night allowance, with overtime at 30%. Potential earnings up to £17.60/hour on standard night shifts.

Qualifications

• 2+ years yard shunting experience preferred.
• Valid C+E License.
• 12 months HGV Class 1 driving experience preferred.
• No more than 6 points on license; no DD/DR convictions.
• UK Driver CPC qualification card and Digital Tachograph cards.
• Good understanding of Driver’s Hours and Working Time Directive.

Responsibilities

• Safely and professionally delivering palletised goods to Regional Distribution Centres, mainly via backdoor tip deliveries.
• Occasional driver-tip, multi-drop deliveries, and overnight stays when required.
• Operate yard shunter to move trailers safely on/off loading bays and position for loading/unloading.
• Manage traffic flow in the yard and maintain a safe working environment.
• Carry out daily vehicle and trailer inspections and report defects.

We are looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver / Shunter to join our Skelmersdale depot. This role will carry out Class 1 driving duties alongside yard shunting responsibilities. The role involves the safe movement of vehicles and trailers, ensuring efficient site operations and adherence to all safety and compliance standards.

Shift pattern: 4 on 4 off Nights, 6pm to 6am (40.25 hours per week)

Pay Rate: £15.35 per hour, plus:

• £1.00 per hour 4 on 4 off shift supplement
• £1.25 per hour night shift allowance
• Overtime paid at 30% extra of the hourly rate

Potential earnings: Up to £17.60 per hour on standard night shifts.

What you'll be doing:

This role combines both HGV driving and yard shunting responsibilities. Key duties include:

• Safely and professionally delivering palletised goods to Regional Distribution Centres, mainly via backdoor tip deliveries.
• Completing occasional driver-tip, multi-drop deliveries, and overnight stays when required.
• Operating a yard shunter to move trailers safely on and off loading bays and position trailers for loading and unloading.
• Managing the flow of traffic within the yard and maintaining a safe working environment.
• Carrying out daily vehicle and trailer inspections, defect reporting, and associated paperwork.
• Ensuring compliance with company procedures, health and safety standards, tachograph regulations, and the Road Transport Directive.
• Liaising with transport, warehouse, goods-in, and operations teams to ensure efficient loading, unloading, and delivery activities.
• Completing PODs, vehicle downloads, trailer checklists, and other transport documentation accurately.
• Supporting fleet administration, including monitoring services, MOTs, fuel checks, and reporting maintenance requirements.
• Maintaining high standards of customer service, professionalism, appearance, and yard housekeeping at all times.

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

• At least 2 years yard shunting experience is strongly preferred.
• Valid C+E License.
• Minimum 12 months’ HGV Class 1 driving experience preferred
• No more than 6 points on your license and no DD or DR code convictions.
• Current valid UK Driver CPC qualification card and Digital Tachograph cards.
• Good understanding of Driver’s Hours and Working Time Directive legislation.
• Ability to complete vehicle checks and report defects correctly.
• Commitment to on-site health and safety requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional approach.
