Herd Manager – Nottingham University

An exciting opportunity for a Herd Manager to join our dairy operation at TheUniversity of Nottingham Centre for Dairy Science Innovation (CDSI)has arisen.

Our Farm

The University of Nottingham Centre for Dairy Science Innovation (CDSI) is part of the Agri-Tech National Centre for Dairy Research. Our farm covers 1,100 acres, and our herd consists of 340 Holsteins/Fresians plus followers. The herd is milked twice a day through 7 x A4 Lely robots. The herd is housed and calved all year round.

Your Role

Roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day running of the dairy herd – milking, feed management and ensuring herd health and welfare is the top priority.
  • Provide rota cover for the Farm Manager (Dairy) and will therefore be the responsible person on site.
  • Utilising the data provided and keeping compliance & records up to date.
  • Maintain and build strong working relationships with third-party visitors, including consultants, vets and nutritionists
  • Working closely with the Farm Manager to develop the strategy for the farm.
  • Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times
  • Farm machinery and general farm maintenance.

  • A full UK Driving license.
  • Proof of UK right to work
  • Qualified to degree/HND or equivalent in Agriculture

    • Be a confident and organised individual with high attention to detail
    • Previous experience operating a wide range of farm equipment

The Benefits

  • 3-Bedroom house on site
  • £34,866 to £46,485 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
  • 36.25 hours a week, working 10 on 4 off
  • 30 days annual leave
