With overall accountability for assigned heating service and repair contracts, the Heating Manager drives performance, compliance, value for money and continuous improvement, helping to ensure reliable heating services and positive outcomes for the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, plan and control the delivery of heating servicing, maintenance and responsive repairs across allocated contracts, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with contract requirements.
  • Manage contractual, statutory and regulatory compliance across gas, oil, solid fuel and renewable heating systems, including Gas Safe requirements, Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations, company procedures and client standards.
  • Oversee supervisors, engineers, apprentices, administrators and team leads, ensuring clear direction, effective workload management, professional conduct and consistent delivery of service standards.
  • Drive performance against contract KPIs, quality standards and compliance targets, supporting the team in achieving full compliance across all fuel types.
  • Provide technical leadership and escalation support, ensuring technical issues are investigated, data is analysed, appropriate solutions are identified and complex customer or operational matters are resolved effectively.
  • Ensure all operatives carry out works in a safe and compliant manner through regular audits, quality control checks, toolbox talks, technical briefings and review of completed documentation.
  • Develop the capability of supervisors, engineers, apprentices and administrative staff through coaching, training, knowledge sharing and structured development opportunities.
  • Manage operational resources including engineer rotas, out-of-hours escalation arrangements, van stocks, seasonal stock changes, tools, equipment, calibration records and materials logistics.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, residents, customers, suppliers, procurement, stores, commercial teams, accounts and internal managers to support seamless service delivery.
  • Monitor appointments, access arrangements, complaints, multi-visit jobs, parts usage and critical visits, taking action to improve customer experience, reduce avoidable repeat visits and maintain contract performance.
  • Maintain weekly operational, compliance and financial reporting, supporting progress tracking, completion reporting, valuations, cost control, P&L review and continuous improvement activity.
  • Support recruitment and manage people processes for the team, including annual leave, sickness absence, disciplinary matters, staff briefings and engagement with company functions.
  • Maintain up-to-date professional and technical knowledge of heating legislation, industry regulations, codes of practice and best practice, ensuring relevant updates are communicated to supervisors and operatives.
  • Work closely with the Regional Delivery Manager, Installation Manager, Electrical Manager and wider management team to support day-to-day operations, contract delivery and wider business objectives.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Strong operational management experience within heating servicing, maintenance and responsive repairs, ideally across large-scale social housing contracts and high-volume appointment-based service delivery.
  • Relevant industry qualifications and experience across gas, renewables, oil or solid fuel heating systems, supported by C&G, NVQ or equivalent trade qualifications where applicable.
  • Sound knowledge of Gas Safe requirements, Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations, health and safety legislation, industry codes of practice, company procedures and compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and develop supervisors, engineers, apprentices and administrative teams, including coaching, training, performance management and workforce planning.
  • Experience of managing contract KPIs, quality standards, compliance performance, technical audits, documentation checks and continuous improvement activity.
  • Commercial awareness with experience of budget control, spend control and authorisation, ordering, cost analysis, valuation support, P&L review and value-for-money decision making.
  • Confident technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse information, resolve escalated issues and make effective decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work professionally with clients, residents, customers, suppliers, operatives and internal management teams.
  • Competent IT skills, including Word and Excel, with the ability to maintain accurate records, reports, compliance data, rotas and operational performance information.
  • Experience of surveying, planning and managing large volumes of visits, appointments, access arrangements, call-out rotas, van stock, equipment, calibration and materials logistics.
Personal Attributes
  • You pride yourself on truth and share knowledge for the greater good.
  • You are committed to improvement and are an active team participant.
