Job summary

Apex M&E Solutions Ltd is seeking a Contracts Manager to lead heat network upgrade and refurbishment projects across London. You will act as the main interface between the consultancy, operations teams and clients, ensuring safe, on-time delivery and adherence to budget and quality targets.

The role bridges MEP & Sustainability consultancy with operations, managing HIU/boiler retrofit, energy centre upgrades and decarbonisation programmes.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Experience delivering mechanical and electrical construction projects.
• Strong understanding of commercial building services.
• Experience managing contractors and subcontractors.
• Knowledge of contract administration.
• Experience managing project programmes and budgets.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
• Good understanding of CDM Regulations and construction safety.
• Experience with communal or district heat networks would be beneficial.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of heat network upgrade and refurbishment projects.
• Develop project execution plans, programmes and delivery strategies.
• Coordinate projects from feasibility through design, procurement, construction and handover.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
• Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Chair project meetings and provide regular progress reporting.
• Serve as primary contact for clients and stakeholders.
• Administer construction and maintenance contracts and change control.
• Monitor contractor performance against KPIs and SLAs.
• Support procurement and contractor selection; review quotations.
• Review designs for buildability and practicality; apply lessons learned.
• Coordinate Energy Centre operations during works and minimise disruption.
• Oversee commissioning, testing, validation and recommissioning.
• Ensure smooth handover with documentation and asset information.
• Manage project costs, forecasts, variations and negotiations.
• Promote safety culture; ensure compliance with CDM and legislation.
• Build trusted client relationships and identify improvement opportunities.
