Job overview

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Therapy Practitioner to work within the Front of House Therapy Team at Poole Hospital, University Hospitals Dorset. Clinical areas covered by the team at Poole Hospital include; Emergency department, urgent treatment centre, Rapid Assessment Consultant Evaluation (RACE) Unit and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) clinic. This is an excellent opportunity to work as a part of the specialist frailty Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) with an admission avoidance focus. The RACE Unit at Poole has won National awards in recognition of its seven-day care, admission avoidance and MDT approach. As an MDT, we take pride in delivering a patient-centred focus through timely comprehensive assessments, interventions, and discharge planning. We are looking for individuals who share a passion for working with Older people.

This post is a clinical position, where the post holders will engage in completing assessments and treatment of patients within the acute hospital setting. Key responsibilities include confidently completing therapy assessments on an individual basis. Effective and adaptable communication skills are essential, as you will work with a diverse patient group. You must be motivated and enthusiastic about promoting rehabilitation and recovery. You need to be well-organized and confident, as you will have the responsibility to provide support and guidance to other therapy support staff.

Main duties include previous experience working with older people in an acute hospital or community setting, participation in a 7-day working rota, and achieving competency levels with support and training provided. Ideally, candidates should be drivers with a full license. The role may involve assessing patients in their homes, with support from qualified clinicians.

Base Location: Poole Hospital. The post will relocate to RBH around April. Interview date: TBC.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Foundation Degree in health or assistant practitioner qualification or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Attainment of competencies from multi-professional team working.

Experience

  • Essential: Experience as a Therapy Assistant or similar, working with adult patients with chronic diseases or multiple pathologies in a healthcare setting.
  • Desirable: Experience in an acute setting, within a multidisciplinary team, and evidence-based practice.

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to assess patients independently and identify appropriate interventions.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to respond to emergencies.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of pathologies affecting older adults, physical and cognitive impairments, rehabilitation techniques, and exercise prescription.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Good communication, motivational, and rapport-building skills, with empathy for older people.

Other Requirements

  • Must hold a clean driving license.
  • Ability to move and handle patients and equipment safely.

Personal Attributes

  • Flexible, motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Language

Must be able to speak English sufficiently to undertake the role.
