Whipps Cross is recruiting a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 to work at Margaret Centre Ward, Whipps Cross University Hospital. This position is open to both experienced Healthcare Support Workers and those new to care. New care workers will receive support to complete Band 3 competencies and can progress from Band 2 to Band 3 within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

About the Role

We seek compassionate and motivated individuals passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include:

  1. Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
  2. Assisting with personal care and mobility
  3. Supporting patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
  4. Undertaking delegated duties (e.g., taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
  5. Performing simple wound dressings

Strong teamworking and communication skills are essential to ensure patient comfort, wellbeing, and safety.

The post is based in the Margaret Centre, a palliative care ward, where you will play a vital role in providing compassionate, person-centred care to patients requiring palliative and end-of-life support. Working closely with nurses, doctors, and the multidisciplinary team, you will provide physical, emotional, and practical support to patients and their loved ones during this sensitive time.

Barts Health has a diverse and busy service that may require staff to be flexible. The role may involve shift work, including nights and weekends.

You will be an integral part of the nursing team, actively participating in meeting patient and service needs under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality are prioritized.

This position is suitable for individuals new to care, who will receive support to complete Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion. Until then, you will be paid at a Band 2 salary.
