Overview

Healthcare Support Worker, Eating Disorders

Location: Moortown, Leeds

Salary: £24,570 - £25,662 per annum based on experience. Pro rata for part-time hours. Full time 37.5 hours per week; Part Time 28 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Support young people aged 16-30 with mental health needs and eating disorders in residential settings, promoting independence through support with education, household tasks and general life skills.
  • Update online care records, complete medication administration, and ensure the home is kept tidy and homely.
  • Provide meal support, document food and fluid intake, and assist with post-meal support.
  • Support and help manage incidents of self-harm and other risk-taking behaviours; monitor physical health concerns with full training provided.
  • Assist with transitions to independence, including education routes, public transport access, appoints scheduling, and self-administration of medication where appropriate.
  • Work shifts including weekends and bank holidays; attend required training during employment; maintain professional boundaries and calmness in emergencies.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
  • Flexible with shifts; ability to attend training on weekdays; good written skills for basic reports; basic IT skills (forms, care system, emails); strong verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and remain calm in emergencies.
  • Desirable: Full UK Driving Licence; NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Care; previous experience with young people who have mental health needs.

About the role and environment

Our homes are active environments where young people can feel safe. Your role includes updating care records and supporting independence, with close monitoring where needed. You will work at our new Leeds home with young people who have diagnosed eating disorders and various mental health needs, including self-harm and risk behaviours. You will help with meal-related responsibilities, documentation, and transition to independence, while engaging in activities such as visits to theme parks, pottery, and theatre.

Previous care experience is not essential as full training will be provided. Ongoing support and mentoring from a friendly residential and clinical team is available. The job offers rewarding opportunities and strong potential for career development in mental health and young people support.
