Overview

We are looking for individuals with experience to work in healthcare to join the NHS family, helping people from your local community. You must be able to work the internal rotation, including long days, nights, weekdays and weekends. UHDB offers an inclusive culture that values our people and creates a sense of belonging.

The Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) role provides valuable support to Clinical teams in delivering care to patients. Every day will be different, with a range of tasks carried out to assist with patient needs and to support patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  • General and clinical observations (vital signs) of patients, reporting any untoward findings to Registered Nursing Staff
  • Recording of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respiration rate
  • Oxygen saturation monitoring using saturation monitor
  • Washing and dressing patients
  • Serving meals and feeding patients
  • Assisting patients to move and making beds
  • Talking to patients and families; monitoring patient condition
  • Following direct instructions and working as part of a team while using personal initiative
  • Demonstrating good listening and communication skills; being well organised
  • Supporting patients with personal needs including washing and toileting
Qualifications & Experience
  • Substantial recent/current experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Care Certificate based on NHS England, Skills for Care and Skills for Health standards (must be gained by working in a vocational capacity; online certificates are not accepted)
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • NVQ Level 2/3 or Diploma in Health is desirable
