Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is hiring a Healthcare Support Worker. Band 2 progressive to Band 3 with a 9‑month training period; permanent contract across wards and outpatient areas. Flexible shifts including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Right to work in UK for the full duration is required. You will support nursing teams by providing high-quality personal care, update patient notes, and participate in ongoing training to achieve Care Certificate and core HCSW

Qualifications

• Completed Care Certificate or ability to complete within 6 months of appointment.
• Capable of attaining NVQ level 3 in care with acute units corresponding to specialty.
• Completed secondary education.
• Ability to move and handle patients and equipment.
• Evidence of empathy, patience and dependability.
• Ability to deal with a range of difficult situations.
• Be able to take instruction and work within the confines of the role.
• Adhere to care certificate standards and complete core HCSW competencies within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Support patients with daily living activities under supervision of registered staff.
• Perform observations, urinalysis, blood pressure checks and support wound care after training.
• Update patient notes including fluid balance, nutrition and care documentation.
• Operate hoists, beds, wheelchairs and clinical devices safely after training.
• Help with bed making, cleaning tasks, stock control and keep areas safe and tidy.
• Provide compassionate support, handle enquiries and work with the multidisciplinary team.
• Help move patients and equipment between departments.
• Complete the Care Certificate and role-specific competencies with ongoing training.
