This position is open to both experienced Healthcare Support Workers and those new to care. Newcomers will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and aim to progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.
About the role: We seek compassionate and motivated individuals passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include:
Strong teamworking and communication skills are essential to ensure patient comfort, wellbeing, and safety.
The successful candidate will work on Faraday Ward, a 16-bedded acute respiratory ward dedicated to high-quality care. The ward operates under trust policies and Barts Health values, fostering an environment of respect and dignity for patients, staff, and visitors. The team maintains excellent communication with patients and their families, managing admissions from various sources including A&E, AAU, and other wards.
Many patients have complex needs due to multiple active medical conditions. The ward adopts a multidisciplinary approach for treatment and safe discharge, involving regular MDT meetings. Discharges may be to home, rehabilitation wards, or residential/nursing homes, supported by assessments from Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
The team works closely with respiratory consultants, junior doctors, and other specialists to provide bedside respiratory care, supporting recovery and addressing poor prognoses with compassion. Feedback from patients and families is valued to continually improve care quality.
Due to the nature of the NHS service, staff may need to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends. The trust cannot provide sponsorship for this role.
This role is ideal for individuals new to care, offering support to complete Band 3 competencies and progress within six months. Until then, the salary will be at Band 2 level.
