Are you compassionate, caring, and communicative? Would you like to grow your career in a world-class teaching hospital? We believe our Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) role offers this opportunity, supported by a tailored training programme.
We are excited to offer opportunities for healthcare assistants to join our Children's Emergency Department at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or healthcare professional within the Emergency Department, providing high standards of personal care and support to our patients.
There has never been a more exciting time to join the paediatric workforce in the emergency department at UHS. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated healthcare assistants for both full and part-time positions. Our department is a regional children's major trauma centre with facilities including an 11-trolley acute illness and injury service, a safe room, an eight-bedded children’s short stay unit, children’s X-ray, and a treatment/procedural room. Our team is enthusiastic, innovative, and dedicated to high standards of care.
You will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary team, providing excellent care to our paediatric patients and demonstrating the Trust values through your work.
If you enjoy working in a busy environment and are eager to develop clinical skills, we will provide a comprehensive induction to support your Care certificate and team integration. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as the role covers various shifts including days and nights.
After a 1-week foundation induction, you will attend an extended programme with monthly study days over five months, learning skills such as physiological measurements, skin integrity maintenance, cannulation, catheterisation, and ECGs. Upon successful completion, you will progress to a Band 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker role, with additional competencies.
Please note: This vacancy does not meet the Home Office sponsorship threshold and requires a 9-month training period. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and at least 9 months remaining on their visa.
