Freedom to act

• Organizes own work tasks daily, practicing in line with Trust policies and procedures at all times, using own initiative when appropriate.
• Identifies own training needs through the appraisal system and ensures mandatory training is kept up to date in conjunction with the Ward Manager.
• Acts as an associate link nursing assistant for a specific area of practice and provides feedback on information and developments to colleagues.
• Participates in education and training programs appropriately.

Working conditions

• Ensures the ward/department remains clean by conducting regular checks and cleaning as required, reporting findings to senior staff.
• Frequently exposed to unpleasant conditions within clinical areas, such as foul linen and bodily fluids.
• May be exposed to hazardous chemicals.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

Communication and relationships

• Liaises with team members within the ward/department to ensure effective and efficient patient care.
• Updates registered staff promptly regarding any deterioration in the patient's clinical condition.
• Maintains confidentiality in all communications.
• Ensures effective communication with patients and their relatives, welcoming them to the ward/department.
• Supports and demonstrates 1:1/enhanced care supervision with tact and empathy, supporting communication.
• Assists registered nursing staff with accurate record keeping, relaying messages promptly while respecting confidentiality.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Reports complaints or concerns to the Nurse in charge or shift leader.
• Acts as an ambassador and role model for the organization.
• Maintains professional boundaries and positive working relationships with patients and colleagues.

Knowledge

• Familiar with local policies and initiatives impacting patient and nursing care.
• Knows how to access Trust policies and procedures.
• Mentors and supports new nursing assistant staff after 12 months of service.
• Participates in ongoing training relevant to the role.
