We are offering an exciting opportunity to develop the skills to become a medical physics technologist, whilst gaining a fully funded BSc degree program in Healthcare Science Practitioner (Medical Physics Technology) offered by the University of the West of England (UWE).
You will play a vital role working with our x-ray imaging equipment. You will work closely with clinical teams and healthcare science specialists, helping to provide a safe radiation workplace and optimising clinical imaging to ensure patient safety.
This position will lead onto a full substantive post at Agenda for Change Band 5 within the department upon successful graduation and completion of the apprenticeship.
The successful candidate should have 96 new UCAS points including physics or chemistry, or an equivalent level of knowledge. A high level of manual dexterity and ability to use test equipment are required. Those with existing STEM degrees are not eligible.

Main duties of the jobYou will work within the Radiation Science Services (RSS) team to provide a diagnostic radiation imaging and radiation protection service. RSS provide a service to all departments within UHBW using ionising radiation, and to external customers in the region.
- With others, quality assure a range of x-ray imaging equipment.
- Be responsible for the safe use of diagnostic radiology equipment including personally controlling x-ray equipment and other equipment.
- Provide, with others, a staff radiation dose monitoring service.
- Carry out staff and environmental dose surveys.
- Participate in the review and update of scientific and technical protocols.
- Be responsible for entering information relating to radiation protection onto departmental databases and for ensuring all issues are followed up by scientific staff.
- Prepare reports and manage the collation and distribution of radiation protection information.
- Assist in the system to measure and assess patient radiation doses for all diagnostic medical exposures. To include data entry into spreadsheets and databases and production of reports.
- Act as an operator under the definitions of the IR(ME)R17 regulations in accordance with Trust policies
