Job description

A permanent post has become available within the Genetic Service for an individual qualified to SVQ3 level as a minimum, preferably with a Higher in a science subject. Previous laboratory experience is essential, and applicants must have experience handling samples and reagents, working with blood and tissue samples, including fetal material. This position is suitable for those wishing to start a career in Healthcare Science.

The successful applicant will work with other members of the Technical Team under the direction of Senior Practitioners and the Team Leader. Responsibilities include carrying out a broad range of testing procedures on various samples referred to the Service. Handling patient samples and performing tasks that contribute to diagnostic reports require careful and meticulous work according to standard operating procedures.

The Regional Genetic Service is a large, friendly team of Technical, Scientific, and Clinical staff providing a first-class service to patients and families from Tayside, NE Fife, and across Scotland. The Service offers modern, well-equipped facilities within Ninewells Hospital. This role presents an excellent opportunity to start a career within the NHS or gain experience in a diagnostic Genetic Service.

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to adhere to the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
