Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Basingstoke is seeking a Band 4 Painter & Decorator to deliver painting and decorating services across the Trust’s healthcare estate. The role covers planned and reactive works with autonomy, using professional craftsmanship and attention to infection control and COSHH standards.

You will work across hospital sites, including patient areas, with a focus on safe, high-quality finishes and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 Painting & Decorating or equivalent is required.
• Experience in painting and decorating across healthcare environments is preferred.
• Knowledge of COSHH and infection control practices is essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out internal and external painting and decorating to a high craft standard.
• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling and patch plastering.
• Apply coatings including emulsion, oil-based, acrylic, varnish, primers and sealers.
• Hang standard and wide-width wallcoverings as required.
• Undertake minor fabric repairs and sealant application.
• Maintain competent use of hand and power tools.
• Perform basic defect recognition and surface condition assessments.
• Ensure safe use of access equipment and working at height.
• Work across multiple hospital sites and support out‑of‑hours/shift work as needed.
• Engage in mandatory training and contribute to developing apprentices and trainees.
