Job overview

The Domestic Services Department prides itself on the high standards of cleanliness throughout our services. Healthcare Cleaners are a valued member of the Healthcare Team and are respected for the work they do.

Healthcare Cleaners provide a range of cleaning duties across the Trust and support services to ensure a safe, efficient and effective service to all patients, staff and visitors is delivered.

Main duties of the job

Basic knowledge of cleaning standards and previous experience of working in a hospital environment, which can include wards, outpatient /clinical areas.

You must be able to work alone or as part of a team.

To be able to deliver the highest standards of cleaning service to the ward at all times observing work schedules and The National Specifications for cleanliness in the NHS requirements.

Changing curtains, wipe/wash shower curtains cleaning of all sanitary areas, working around patients.

Damp wiping of all furniture, fixtures and fittings, ledges, pipes, tiles, glass partition, walls, doors and panels, internal window blinds

The successful candidates will receive full induction training.

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements
  • No formal qualifications are necessary, but the post holder must be willing to undertake necessary training to the role to acquire knowledge and skills.
  • Basic Numeracy & Literacy skills
  • To be able to demonstrate knowledge of infection control policies, guidelines and procedures
Experience & Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning principles.
  • To be able to demonstrate knowledge of manual handling techniques
  • To be able to work towards NVQ level 1 or 2 in Cleaning Building Interiors.
  • Knowledge of COSSH (using chemicals safely.)
  • To work towards Customer Service NVQ Qualification
  • Undertake relevant IT training.
Skills and Ability
  • To be able to demonstrate good decision making skills.
  • To be able to make decisions at own discretion to fit with ward/departmental procedures, priorities and patient needs
Communications and interpersonal skills
  • To be able to demonstrate experience working under pressure.
  • Respond to patient/visitor enquiries in accordance with Trust procedures.
