Job description
Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistants to join West Dereham ward at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn. West Dereham ward is a 28 bedded acute frailty ward. We are looking for individuals who uphold our trust values to contribute to making our patients feel comfortable and well cared for during their stay. You are required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the ever changing needs of the unit environment. Our aim is to provide our patients with the highest quality of personal care and support while they are in hospital.

There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken. Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.

At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs. We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too.

Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for further information about this role.

Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for working under delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will be supported to provide high quality care and ensure patients are at the centre of all we do.

The post will involve working days and nights, as well as bank holidays including Christmas and New Year on a rota basis. The post also requires you to work as part of a 7 day rota with day and night shifts.

Training and induction

Successful candidates will attend the GROW Programme, the QEHKL enhanced induction programme. This includes mandatory training (the training that all clinical staff at the hospital complete). You will be taught the fundamental skills you need to perform your role and attend the Caring with Kindness programme (essential learning from patient experience). The course is very practical – you will have plenty of time to practice new skills before you start your new role. You will attend a comprehensive induction programme and will be supported to complete the Care Certificate.

  • Demonstrate flexibility
  • Be able to work as part of a team as well as make decisions autonomously
  • Be willing to undertake further training and Mandatory updates as deemed necessary
