Job summary

Circle Health Group's Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join the Wards. This full-time, permanent position offers 37.5 hours per week and a salary of £24,947 per year.

You will support patients with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and comfort, collaborate with nurses and doctors, and help maintain clinical areas. A caring, compassionate approach is essential, with NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience in a care or health support role.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and escalate when needed.
• Basic literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
• Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care desirable.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care and mobility.
• Help patients with eating, drinking and nutritional support, including documenting intake.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives.
• Record routine observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.).
• Support basic clinical procedures (wound care setup, catheter care, etc.).
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment for patient use.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, therapists and admin teams to support safe patient care.

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join their team of staff in the Wards department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties Of This Role Include

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.
• Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
• Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
• Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.
• Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

• Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
• Ability to follow instructions and escal
• Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
• Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
