Overview

We are looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic Band 2 Health Care Assistant to join our dynamic team on B18 Digestive disease unit at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

We are 26 bedded fast-paced unit specialising in complex digestive disease and general medical conditions. We work very closely with our sister ward C4 providing seamless care for our patients and their families. We always promote to act in a manner that upholds the Trust values working as part of the ward team to ensure that patients and relatives receive Safe, Personal & Effective care.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse including assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, measuring patient output, support patients nutritional and hydration needs, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens, and observing patients for changes in condition.
  • To support the productive operation of the unit environment by undertaking a range of clinical and non-clinical activities and roles, contributing to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
  • Working alongside a trained nurse to deliver safe personal and effective care is the main responsibility, with an enthusiasm to develop yourself within the role.

Development and Qualifications

There will be an enthusiasm to develop yourself within the role; further knowledge of basic life support, physiological measurement recording, safer handling and equality and diversity are all areas in which experience is preferable, but training can be provided for the successful candidate. There will also be an opportunity to further develop your knowledge with learning skills like venepuncture and cannulation.

Working Pattern

Patients are the most important part of our work and caring for them to a high standard in a caring and safe environment is paramount. This is a rotational post involving working days, nights, and weekends.
