Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in Somerton is recruiting a Health Care Assistant to support inpatient mental health wards on a 24-hour rotating schedule, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide compassionate, patient-centred care.

You will assist with daily living activities, personal care and recovery-focused treatments while pursuing NVQ Level 3 in direct care or a Certificate in Care. Training and development are emphasised.

Qualifications

• Must be willing to work toward NVQ Level 3 in direct care or Certificate in Care if not previously held.
• Experience of working in a caring, supportive or people orientated position.
• An interest in people and personalities; Can generate ideas for activities; An awareness of danger.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, therapeutic interactions with patients and help them to recovery.
• Assisting patients with daily living activities, personal care, nutrition, well-being and independence.
• Work with nurses, occupational therapists and the larger multi disciplinary team to give high quality, person orientated care.
• Encourage participation in therapeutic, social and rehabilitation activities.
