A leading healthcare provider in Liverpool is seeking a Healthcare Assistant for its Trauma & Orthopaedics unit. The position offers a pro-rata salary of £24,465 for a part-time role involving a variety of patient care responsibilities.   • Complete menu forms and liaise with the catering department.
  • Carry out movement and handling within safe practice guidelines.
  • Use mobility appliances to maintain or improve patient mobility.
  • Prevent pressure sore development.
  • Obtain specimens from patients for testing.
  • Assist with last offices and general observations.

Job Summary

Healthcare Assistant – Trauma & Orthopaedics (Band 2, Permanent). 37.5–23 hours per week, day and night shifts. Working at Aintree University Hospital, 27‑bed acute trauma and orthopaedic unit covering all orthopaedic needs in Liverpool.

Location & Salary

Aintree University Hospital, Ward 4, Liverpool, L9 7AL. Salary £24,465 per annum pro‑rata.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and grooming, including emptying catheter bags.
  • Support patients in managing incontinence and maintain privacy and dignity during toileting.
  • Measure fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts and report to the registered nurse.
  • Prepare and serve meals, drinks and snacks; assist in feeding where necessary.
  • Complete menu forms and liaise with the catering department regarding meal numbers; report dietary intake as per the care plan.
  • Carry out movement and handling within safe practice guidelines and the patient’s manual handling plan.
  • Use exercise and mobility appliances to maintain or improve patient mobility as directed by individual care plans.
  • Prevent pressure sore development in conjunction with the registered nurse and the patient’s care plan.
  • Obtain specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing; escort patients to clinical departments.
  • Assist the registered nurse with last offices and general observations, reporting any untoward events.
Qualifications

Essential: Demonstrated willingness and capability to undertake NVQ level 2.

Experience

Essential: Suitable work / life experience. Desirable: Previous experience in a caring role.

  • Basic computer skills (desirable).
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the healthcare setting.
