Job summary

The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join the Theatre department on a bank, as-and-when-required basis. You will supplement staffing levels during busy periods and cover annual leave or absence, performing patient care and basic clinical duties as trained.

The role requires compassionate care, good communication, and physical ability to move and handle patients. NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care is desirable, with training provided where needed.

• Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs.
• Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
• Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
• Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.
• Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care
