If you are an experienced Healthcare Assistant with a strong understanding of how a Theatre operates then we have just the role for you.

We are looking for a Theatre Healthcare Assistant to join our busy Theatre team in our Shepton Mallet Hospital.

You will be a vital member of the Theatre team, providing support to the qualified staff, ensuring a safe and effective clinical service is provided to all users across the Theatre.

You will provide a patient focused service within the unit, expanding the role appropriately under supervision and guidance of a trained nurse.

This will include ensuring documentation is kept up to date, liaising with other providers and the wider team at the hospital. You will also take responsibility for booking pre-assessment appointments.
Working 37.5 hours a week between Monday and Sunday

What you'll be doing:

  • Support the registered nurse and operating department practitioner in implementing an agreed plan of care in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received.
  • Promoting safe patient care and being willing to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service delivery.
  • Helping promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient.
  • Contributing to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with theatre colleagues and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participating in regular theatre meetings and attending other unit meetings.
  • Providing support and assistance to qualified staff.
  • Being responsible for cleaning/washing theatre & equipment between and after cases.
  • Assisting with the transportation of patients to and from the ward.
  • Monitoring and maintaining stocks of material and equipment at appropriate levels within the theatres, as delegated by qualified theatre practitioners.
  • Taking part in monthly stock counts.
  • Liaising with representatives from suppliers regarding stock of implants.
  • Utilising and completing relevant documentation correctly.
  • Actively participating as a member of the theatre team, communicating with patients and colleagues, working at all times with others to achieve the organisation's goals.
  • Assisting the team in achieving the optimal outcome for patient care.

The role involves direct contact with patients and their families on a physical and psychological level and therefore you need to be empathetic, friendly and have good interpersonal skills as well as:

  • Experience in a Theatre environment.
  • The ability to promote safe patient care.
  • A willingness to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance the delivery of our clinical service.
  • The ability to recognise and give priority to the needs of patients while maintaining respect, dignity and having an individualised approach to patient services.
