Job summary

Broomfield Hospital is seeking a Health Care Assistant to join the ward team and deliver high-quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

The role provides full training, with opportunities to progress from band 2 to band 3 on completion of care certificates, on a 32-bed respiratory ward. A team-focused, compassionate approach is essential to support patients and families throughout care.

Qualifications

• Experience in care is advantageous but not required; full training provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist in admission by recording patient demographic details accurately.
• Assist patients with personal and oral hygiene as instructed.
• Help patients with eating and drinking.
• Monitor and record dietary and fluid intake, reporting abnormalities to the nurse.
• Assist patients to access toilet facilities and manage waste.
• Test blood sugars, urine and stool specimens and record results.
• Remove male/female indwelling urethral catheters as required.

The Health Care assistant will function as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the ward or department to provide a seamless service & high-quality care to patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The HCA is expected to undertake care to meet the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse, working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the ward. Being able to work as part of a team is essential to the role. As a HCA at Broomfield Hospital, you will be required to:

• At all times maintain the dignity and respect of patients
• Assist in the admission process by accurately recording patient's demographic details
• Assist patients with personal and oral hygiene as instructed
• Assist patients with eating and drinking
• Monitor and accurately record dietary and fluid intake, appropriately reporting any abnormalities to the nurse in charge.
• Enable patients to access appropriate toilet facilities, collecting and disposing of body waste.
• Test blood sugars, urine and stool specimens & accurately record results.
• Remove male/female indwelling urethral catheters.

Although experience is not necessary for this role as full training is provided, having worked in care, or provided care would be advantageous to the role., We are a 32 bedded respiratory ward looking for staff with enthusiasm and compassion. The position will be band 2 rising to a band 3 on completion of care certificate and competencies.
