Job description

We are looking for Healthcare Assistants to join our team on the Acute Orthopaedic trauma unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

You will work as part of a team delivering excellent patient care to patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures.

Main duties of the job
  • To work as part of the ward/department team delivering excellent patient care.
  • Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
  • Serving meals and helping to feed patients
  • Provide support to patients to maintain their hygiene needs, including:
    • Bathing/washing
    • Care of mouth, hair, nails and eyes
  • Provide support to maintain their elimination needs, including:
    • Encouraging continence
    • Emptying urinary catheter bags
    • Mobilising to toilet or use of commode or bedpan
    • Maintaining hygiene needs after episodes of incontinence

Qualifications
  • GCSE in Maths and English grade 3-1 (D-G) Functional Skills L1 or higher
  • GCSE in Maths and English grade 9-4 (A-C) Functional Skills L2 or higher
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Healthcare related subject, or equivalent qualification
Experience
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of what is required within the role of a Health Care Assistant in the care setting
  • Can describe the Trust Values and demonstrate how they put these into practice within their caring role
  • Previous hospital experience
  • Formal or informal care experience
