Job Overview

Contribute to providing a warm, homely environment for children and young people on short break stays, primarily at Layland, a small OFSTED-regulated home for children with learning disabilities and health needs. Support, supervision, and training will be provided. The role includes weekend, bank holiday, and night work. The post is permanent.

Main duties

Work as part of a team to provide effective Short Break Services, working in partnership with children, young people, and their families, ensuring their emotional, physical, cultural, religious, and spiritual needs are met.

Qualifications and Experience (Essential)

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or willingness to work towards it, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience caring for children with high health needs, learning disabilities, epilepsy, scoliosis, or sensory impairments.
  • Experience working in health, social care, or education settings.
  • Evidence of ongoing training and professional development.

Desirable

  • Experience in residential or short break settings.
  • Level 3 Safeguarding training.
  • Clinical skills such as Gastro-Jejejunostomy, tracheostomies.

Skills and Aptitude (Essential)

  • Good IT skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good listening skills and ability to handle complex information.

Knowledge and Abilities (Essential)

  • Ability to follow Moving and Handling Procedures and Support Plans.
  • Knowledge of Food Hygiene procedures.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts.
