Job summary

A healthcare provider in Cornwall is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to contribute to the care of children and young people with high healthcare needs in a short break home. This role involves working with families to provide a warm and supportive environment while ensuring children's emotional and physical needs are met. Qualified candidates will have a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare and experience supporting children with disabilities. Weekend, bank holiday, and night shifts are required.

Qualifications

  • Training to Level 3 in Safeguarding Children and Young People.
  • Previous experience of working in a health, social care, or education setting.

Healthcare Assistant - Shortbreaks

Children's Services are looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant to our Team at Layland.

Layand is a small welcoming four bedded home regulated by OFSTED which provides short breaks for children and young people with a learning disability and high healthcare needs.

Your experience and enthusiasm of working with children and young people with high healthcare needs will be welcomed, but support, supervision and training will be provided.

This post will include weekend, bank holiday and night work.

This is a permanent post and will be primarily based at Layland, although the post holder may be required on occasion to work at other short break homes in Cornwall.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a team, contributing to the effective provision of Short Break Services to an identified caseload of children and young people with high health needs and a learning disability.

The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with the child or young person and their family, demonstrating sensitivity to them at all times, ensuring the provision of a warm and homely environment that meets their emotional, physical, cultural, religious andspiritual needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
  • Level 3 Diploma Residential Childcare or agree to work towards the appropriate qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of caring for children and young people with high health needs / learning disability/ complex epilepsy/ scoliosis/ visual and hearing impairment
  • Previous experience of working with children and young people in a health, social care, education setting
  • Evidence of continued training/professional development
  • Experience of working within a residential home or short break provision
  • Training to Level 3 in Safeguarding Children and Young People: roles and competencies for Health Care staff
  • Experience within clinical skills: Gastro-Jejejunostomy, tracheostomies
Skills and Aptitude
  • Can demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good listening skills and the ability to deal with complex information that the child or young person and other professionals will share with them
Knowledge and abilities
  • Physically able to follow Moving and Handling Procedures and Behavioural Support Plans
  • Good knowledge of Food Hygiene procedures
  • Ability to work flexibly
