Senior Healthcare Assistant

Department: Emergency Department

Band 2/3 pro rata if part-time

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Do you have a passion for patient care and want to work in a fast-paced hospital environment? Are you a committed, caring, and collaborative individual?

The Emergency Department (ED) is currently looking for FIVE new Healthcare Assistants. The role of the ED is to treat patients with serious medical conditions, life-threatening illnesses/injuries, and limb-threatening problems by providing 24-hour care to an average of 240 patients daily. You will need to be proactive, alert, and ready for anything.

As a Healthcare Assistant in the ED, you will work collaboratively with Staff Nurses, Consultants, and ambulance staff.

We are seeking proactive, enthusiastic, compassionate individuals who understand the importance of health and safety and enjoy teamwork.

You must be committed to accurate documentation, self-motivated, eager to improve patient lives, and caring at all times.

Please note: You must have an NHS Care Certificate to be Band 3. You will be Band 2 until you pass this and complete your probation.

  • Assist senior nursing staff in maintaining clinical equipment in good working order.
  • Assist medical and other staff with procedures and act as a chaperone as required.
  • Promote good clinical practice and act as an ambassador for high standards and patient care.
  • Support and train new staff through internal training and induction.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.
  • Support the use of competency assessments and evaluate Junior healthcare assistants' competency documents and care certificates.

  • Assisting in the delivery of patient care, including personal care duties while maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Using appropriate aids for moving and handling to ensure safety.
  • Knowledge of clinical observations, glucose monitoring, and urinalysis, with understanding of escalation processes.
  • Assisting in the induction of new staff and demonstrating duties.
  • Organizing daily workload and prioritizing tasks.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, considering barriers such as disabilities.
  • Using advanced communication skills to encourage patient engagement.
  • Meeting needs of patients and visitors courteously and compassionately.
