Job summary

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly teams across five practices in Oldham. Candidates should have experience in a general practice setting.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent teamwork skills. The Healthcare Assistant will support the clinical team in providing and delivering patient care.

The successful candidate will perform general practice HCA duties, including:

  • Taking and recording procedures such as BP, smoking status, blood tests, flu vaccinations, B12 injections, health checks, and chronic condition monitoring.

Main duties include:

  1. Conducting new patient health checks
  2. Performing NHS health checks
  3. Measuring blood pressure, height, and weight
  4. Phlebotomy
  5. ECGs
  6. Administering flu, B12, and pneumococcal vaccinations
  7. Chaperoning duties
  8. Monitoring and recording vaccine/cold chain storage
  9. Assisting in patient health assessment and surveillance
  10. Undertaking delegated clinical activities for specific patients
  11. Assisting with data collection on health and well-being to improve practice QOF achievement

  • Performing ECG recording, phlebotomy, spirometry
  • Managing laboratory samples
  • Handling vaccine cold chain storage and recording
  • Restocking surgical and vaccination supplies
  • Preparing and maintaining clinical environments
  • Supporting patient health assessments and surveillance
  • Engaging in health promotion activities
  • Collecting and analyzing health data

Person specifications

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Venepuncture

Experience (Essential):

  • Working in a healthcare setting, preferably primary care
  • Managing appointments

Desirable:

  • Independent working experience

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
