Healthcare Assistant / GP Assistant / Nurse Associate - Somerset

SymphonyHealthcare Services has a fantastic opportunity for aHealthcare Assistant(HCA) /General Practice Assistants (GPA) or Nursing Associateto join the team at Martock Surgery in Somerset, as part of the Community Investigation Hub (CIH) and new Acute Hub, based at SouthPetherton Medical Centre.

You will have experience of working in primary care and be competent in all HCA / GPA / Nurse Associate duties, including but not limited to the following secondary care diagnostic testing:

  • ECGrecording including setting the patient up with 24-hour ECG monitoring
  • Phlebotomy(blood tests)
  • Spirometry (TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED)
  • FeNOtest procedure
  • Maintainingconsumables
  • Ensuringsamples are sent off to the laboratories
  • Keepclinical equipment in good working order and maintained/calibrated as required.

Ideal applicants will have a genuine passion for patient care, the ability tocommunication effectively combined with sound organisational skills, to ensure they managetheir own time and workload well, while delivering timely patient care.

We have a permanent post of 30 hours per week available. Job share opportunities will be considered and we offer flexible working from day 1 of employment.

The rate of payfor this role is between £12.50 and £13.20 per hour. Starting salaries will be offered based on experience. Symphony also offer many other attractive employeebenefits. Please see attached poster for information.

Main duties of the job
  • Liaisingwith SSW PCN practices to ensure the CIH / Acute Hub achieves the activity that has beenset to maximise income.
  • Ensureall activity is recorded and coded appropriate to maximise income
  • Liaisewith the SSW PCN Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) to ensure patienteducation around what the purpose of the CIH is and the service it provides tothe local community
  • Liaisewith the central Data and Performance Team to ensure accurate reporting
  • Tosupport and lead on (where delegated) implementing new service areas within theCIH as agreed by the PCN Board and Somerset Foundation Trust (SFT) as thecommissioning organisation.
  • Towork with the PCN leadership team to continuously update and work within theStandard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the CIH in line with national andlocal guidance
  • Tohave completed or be willing to complete the required spirometry qualifications(for both paediatrics and adults) to be able to independently undertakespirometry assessment and hold or be willing to work towards ARTPaccreditation.

Job responsibilities

The Community Investigation Hub (CIH) is a new service offering the local community access todiagnostic tests closer to where they live. This HCA / GP Assistant will play a crucial role in delivering this service.

Experience
  • Significant experience of previous HCA / Phlebotomist or equivalent Technician role.
  • Ability to carry out clinical, technical, scientific or administrative duties according to established protocols, procedures, or systems of work.
  • Previous experience of working in Primary Care/ or similar NHS setting.
  • Experience of ECG recording including setting the patient up with 24-hour ECG monitoring.
  • Experience of performing Spirometry procedures.
  • Experience of FeNO test procedure.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrates factual knowledge of field of work.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills.
