Job description

Successful applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre at Carew House, Bodmin on 21st February 2025. This will be a morning or afternoon to be confirmed.

Do you have a passion for working in adult mental health?

Do you have the patience, compassion, and motivation to work with those experiencing an acute mental health crisis?

If the answer is yes, we want to hear from you!

Fletcher ward is an 18-bedded inpatient acute ward, which provides a safe environment for assessment and treatment of service users that are aged 18 and above with a mental health condition.

The staff team on Fletcher ward consists of registered nurses, consultant psychiatrists, health care assistants, occupational therapists, activity co-coordinators, admin, and a psychologist.

Patients admitted to Fletcher ward may be experiencing acute distress and present with a significant deterioration in mental state, risk of self-harm, self-neglect, or harm to others. We also support patients that may be admitted informally or detained under a section of the mental health act.

Due to the busy and fast-paced nature of the ward, this role would be best suited to applicants who have previous experience working within a Mental Health ward environment.

On Fletcher ward, we aim to provide a holistic approach to recovery and rehabilitation within a safe environment. We value positive risk-taking to enable clients to move forward with their lives and promote recovery. We aim to provide person-centered care in every aspect of our role and promote patient involvement in their care and treatment plans.

We aim to achieve an individual service user’s potential in a collaborative relationship, by addressing concerns raised by the service user by supporting, empowering, and encouraging them to take control of their lives.

Within the Fletcher team, we all try to listen calmly, respectfully, and patiently to others and treat everyone in a kind, courteous manner. We will all try to be open and honest and work together to promote positive change and recovery.

Fletcher ward is a busy environment, and the needs of each individual cannot always be met instantly but should be met in a timely manner. The safety of the staff and patients here is the team’s priority.

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organization and people matter to us. As part of the team, you’ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people’s homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work, and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays, lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
