Job Summary

NHS Blood and Transplant collects over 7, blood donations every day, providing vital blood and blood products that help to save and improve the lives of thousands of people every year. Our team provides a welcoming and supportive environment for our donors, ensuring they receive exceptional, first-class care. We operate outside hospitals, collecting blood from donors in Donor Centres and in the community.

As a Healthcare Assistant – Blood Donation, you will learn valuable skills and be an essential member of our team. You’ll play a vital role in saving and improving lives daily in an environment where every day is different.

We provide extensive induction and training, including the Skills for Health Care Certificate, recognized as a foundation for healthcare support throughout the NHS.

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in training to learn how to insert a needle into a donor's arm to collect a blood donation.
  • Looking after donors throughout their donation to ensure a positive experience and quality care.
  • Recording all donor documentation accurately during the session.
  • Encouraging donors to return by building relationships and providing excellent customer service.
  • Handling blood products, needles, and equipment safely and responsibly.

You will work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, with appropriate notice of the rota. See benefits information for more details.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience dealing with the public.
  • Experience delivering quality customer service.
  • Willingness to learn new technology skills and undergo digital training.

Qualifications and Training

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Willingness to undertake development and training, including the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
